Asia Argento, born in Rome to a household that includes actors and directors, pursued both professions. When she was nine, Asia made her film debut in the role of Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. Patrice Chereau was her director in Queen Margot, where she was a major character. In 1995, Asia collaborated with Michel Piccoli to produce Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion, for which she won a David di Donatello. Asia started directing short films around 1994. Two of them were made: Prospettive, 1996, she produced a documentary on her father and then Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the legendary director Abel Ferrara. This latter was recognized by the Rome Film Festival. Asia began her directorial debut as a feature-length film in 1999, with Scarlet Diva (2000). The film also featured her as the principal performer, as well as the creator of the script. The film released May 2000 in Italy and across the globe. It was also released in Brooklyn, New York it was awarded an award at the Williamsburg film festival. After directing several music videos, she gave birth to the first of her daughters, Anna Lou. She starred with Jean-Marc Barr in The Red Siren, directed by Olivier Megaton. In 2003 she starred alongside Vin Diesel and Rob Cohen's action-packed thriller. Asia also has a selection of short stories which were published in top magazines.
